Latest project for 2025

Here's a photo of my easel setup, showcasing a watercolor portrait of my grand daughter. This painting was created as a gift to our daughter. Using my slightly modified, large PaintBook from EdgeProGear.com along with Pure Red Sable watercolor brushes from RoseMaryandCo.com, a 16” x 20” Fredrix Cotton Canvas Panel from, ArtSupplyWarehouse.com. Prior to any watercolor painting, I apply a couple of layers of Golden’s Absorbent Ground (White Acrylic Primer for water media) onto the canvas panel to guarantee the pigments adhesion. I’m a huge fan of Winsor Newton Professional Series 1 Watercolors, as well as Daniel Smith’s Extra Fine Watercolors and I recently have enjoyed using Horadam Aquarell Waterscolors by Schmincke. It’s convenient to purchase just about everything needed for painting a project by ordering online from any one of these art supply stores I’ve listed. For my daughter Kate on her 30th birthday, I decided to create a watercolor portrait of her daughter. I used a photo reference that husband Kyle had taken as he just tucked Leighton in for the evening (nap).

This preliminary drawing was accepted for the upcoming art show & silent auction. HSN has teamed with some 30 local artists for Monday evening, October 19th. The event begins at 5:30 pm and will be held at the Duncan McClellan Gallery in St. Petersburg, FL. The Theme for this event is, "Wherever you go, go with all your heart." Proceeds for the auctioned pieces will help support the American Heart Association. I'm honored to be involved with such an important cause.
